The Hollow Earth started in the first Sons of Ether Tradition book. That book was full of nods to early 20th century pulp fiction. Besides a cool idea for a realm to add to Mage’s cosmology, it was an acknowledgement of the large number of pulp stories about fantastical worlds found underground. Are you considering using the Hollow Earth in your Mage game?  A little reading can help you make it interesting.  The 3 top choices for inspiration are:

The Moon Pool & The Conquest of the Moon Pool are available in a paperback volume by Altus Press that has the original Virgil Finlay illustrations. There were more Pellucidar novels after the first two but they weren’t as popular and I wouldn’t recommend them. The Hollow Earth by Fall River Press collects the first two in one volume that is quite affordable.

If you want to read further, take a look at Hollow Earth Tales. This 7 volume collection of stories from the early 20th century open the vaults of time to show us what we’ve been missing. Doc Eon would approve!
