KOG V3 Q

Post by Akuma Sephitaro » Tue Apr 05, 2005 6:25 pm

Is it all the same shade of gold? Or are the hands and internals a different shade? I really can't tell and it's getting kinda annoying...

Some people paint the V3 in 2 shades of gold. The standard shade for armor, and a darker, browner shade for the waist, hands, etc.

I don't think anyone does it all in one color. If they do, well.... yuck.

But some people (like me) prefer to apply the old style of KOG coloring, with the waist, hands, etc done in some darker metallic color... a dark metallic blue, or a dark grey, or whatever.

A pure gold KOG, even in 2 shades, looks kinda boring I think. Nice to have some contrast.

Based on what we get to see from the covers of NewType and Outline book, the V3 has a different shade of color for the internals other than the gold for the armors. you can tell from looking at the neck.

I remember seeing quite a few KOGs out there done in ALL gold, which just doesn't look right to me. Some examples:

I think I might go the two colors route, though the all gold doesn't bother me... I'll have to think about it

Knight Club did his KOG with two different shades of gold and it seems to work well. http://knightclub.cool.ne.jp/knight/kogv3/kogv37.html

I personally prefer a two tone paint scheme like here: http://www.gk2000.net.hk.ro/fss/FSS09/index.html

The only thing that angers me about this kit (the plastic V3 ) is how they molded the head... I rather liked how the Patra's head was, ah well... minor challenge really :D

No idea when I'll be able to get to it, but I'm trying to line it up to get working on it (was bored so I glued a few parts, nothing major... )

plastic V3? are you talking about the waves IP kit?

if so, you might want to modify the head.

I modified the head on the regular KOG from wave. Extended it by 2cm to make it bigger more like the current KOG sculpts.

Modify the head? How so, exactly?

I extended the forehead by using miliput. just sculpt to the desired shape and sand down to get the right contour. then I just scribed the basic panel lines. then just cut out a piece of plastic to make the fatima cockpit.l

as you can see from the photos below the original forehead is pretty much vertical while the new forehead is bigger and slopes forward.

modified forehead...the pic shows an in-progress kit.

The longer forehead is a nice shape, but it still looks a bit too rough and rounded. What I mean is, the upper 'edge' is very soft in the area where you made the extension...

oh yes, the most anterior upper edge should be sharper. this is my first time sculpting, so i'm just happy that the head wasn't ruined...i debated whether to do it for a long time fearing that it would not come out symmetrical, lol. over the course of this project the desire to finish just overwhelmed my attention to detail...my bad.

i talked about some of the other modifications in this thread:

It has since been completely painted, panel lined, and decaled. however i no longer have my digi cam so these in-progress pics will have to do.

Ah, I was just about to ask about that. :) Since I notice an absence of panel ink/wash, the red leg stripes and knight master eye decals are missing, the fatima cockpit hatch should be green, etc...
