Pics of Whits Mirage in Waverider mode?

Post by Rubel Colus » Thu May 05, 2005 5:51 pm

Most of us know about the ZZ Gundam that Nagano designed which was rejected, and later he called it the Whits Mirage.

The Whits Mirage has a waverider/ flying mode, but I think there aren't many pictures of it. I've only seen one lineart of it and i didn't get to know which book it is >_<. Would greatly appreciate any info on which books/source that has such a picture, better yet, if anyone has any pictures of it please post them up?
Looking for:

I've never seen the waverider mode of Whits Mirage, but came across a couple interesting pics.
A little bit Katoki-fied? :)

Ha ? It worked a few hours ago for me, now it doesn't work, maybe there's a limit bandwidth, or a temporary problem.

wow !! thanks hitori ~~!!

very surprised.

i thought Nagano gave up when they changed the requirements quite late and told him the ZZ Gundam needs to be able to split into A and B fighters AND a combined waverider mode as well.

So he did manage to do it. Yet he pulled out of the designers team. Probably to show them that he can do it? He pulled out of the Char's CounterAttack team too. Wonder why... and whether he will be involved in future Gundam projects (Z movies?).

Anyway, what i saw previously was from doujinshi

Nice picture. Thanks for showing that to us! Nagano's mechanical design abilities aren't fully showcased even in Five Star Stories. I like the opportunities to see his other work.

I'm hoping someday I can come across this as higher res or an image I can scan myself.
If you don't like the news then go make some of your own.

Even though I love nagano's work, I don't think he's well suited to gundam style designs.

When I look at gundams, I expect a really technical and blocky appearance. I really like the gundam stuff in 0083 series for example.

I mostly appreciate nagano for his FSS work, which is truly exceptional.

I DO like nagano's qubeley, and a few others though.

In case you want to get this book and scan it yourself, those scans are from:

B-Club Special
機動戰士 ガンダム 新 MS 大全集 (roughly, Mobile Suit Gundam New MS Encyclopedia)
1165 yen
A4 size
136 pages
Published by Bandai, Heisei year 1 (1989 I think...)

This book was a second edition of the original which was first published in 1988.
There is another revised edition that came out in 1992.

B-Club Special
機動戰士 ガンダム 新 MS 大全集 (Ver 3.0)
1553 yen
A4 size
184 pages
Published by Bandai, 1992

But I can't say for certain that the revised edition will have that exact image.
I don't own either of the books and they are all out of print.

while on the subject of Nagano’s other work, I thought I would post this one. the (fictional) E-79 WWII tank from the game Panzer Front. he did another one for that game, but I seem to have lost the pic

wow... thanx alot!! Now i know which books to search for. :D

And Nagano's Panzer Front E-79 design made many people thought that its real... There's a E-79 bis which looks very similar but it has armor plates covering the sides.

The armored plates on the side are Schuerzen. They were anti-bazooka armored plates put on the sides of German tanks during WWII. The most famous tank with Schuerzen was the German Panzer III Ausf.M/N (Ausf. basically means model or type). I'm not exactly sure if the Shuerzen actually helped bazooka protection, the plates look so thin that a shaped charge could just blow through them. Battle effectiveness or not, they look pretty cool.

And thanks GP for the lineart!

no prob :D

BTW, I think the first pic in hitori’s post might be Fujita’s and not Nagano’s.
