Web Site - New Layout

Post by Tachyon » Tue Apr 19, 2005 3:04 pm

http://www.gearsonline.net/
This link should lead you to the new experimental Gears Online home page. I'm asking everyone to visit the link and let me know if anything looks screwy. If I don't hear about any problems I'll start working this new template into pages throughout the site.

I'm re-doing the site's layout for a number of reasons:
 It's easy to work on style sheets at the office during breaks
 The current site doesn't display well in Mozilla Firefox
 The thin stripes in the menu bar were displaying poorly on laptops
 Less code means faster loading on browsers
 Easier to create different looks for different sections (I'm planning a new look for the Five Star Stories section)

I think it looks much cleaner and crisp.
Nice work! :D

Looks good Tachyon , the colors do appear crisper and brighter . Although I hate to say this , the firefox problem wouldn't have bothered me much , I tried it and within a day went back to IE6 . The bloody thing started using something on the order of 90% of my CPU and I couldn't find a solution for the problem , I've been told different reasons for the problem but no solutions .
Do you understand?

I would like to thank everyone who posted to this thread. I realize a revision of the Web site's code base isn't very exciting. That is why I appreciate everyone who took the time to let me know how the revision displays for them.

I will continue to watch this thread for any reports of problems.

The core pages of Gears Online have been converted to the new code base. Sadly, all instances of "It's all about the mecha, baby" have been removed. Oh, well. At least Gears Online is less likely to offend someone now.

Ehhh...? Screw political correctness. What's wrong with "It's all about the mecha, baby"? It seems very appropriate for all ages.

I like the new layout, although the content box when you click on a series should not appear above the standard navigation box. It looks strange, messy, and I don't expect it to pop out there. Just a matter of opinion.

And I'm tempted to download Firefox just because of its cleanliness on the menu bars and such.
