Knight/Fatima-portable Equipment(MH Siren):

[upper right]
The Magic War will undoubtely involve drawn-out MH battles. Nations and knights may go all-out like Fillmore and Bachtgma, or just send a few to the Hathuha fighting like the Jota Space Knights. In either case every knight prepares for the worst by preparing emergency supplies in the cockpit and the MH's leg containers for all possible situations.
Containers are placed in the legs because they are the easiest to reach and least likely to be destroyed if a MH is taken down. These containers will also be ejected automatically if the fatima triggers the knight cockpit's ejection system.
The container contents are divided into a full set of field equipment and an emergency "escape pack". The escape pack is intended for the fatima and can be attached to the back of the fatima suit. This is because the knight's survival rate is greatly dependant on the fatima's survival. The knight's survival rate increases greatly if the fatima is available to manage the food supply, perform environmental analysis, identify escape routes to allied forces, and deal with injuries.
What we are showing here are the emergency supplies for Fillmore's MH Siren at Nakakara.

[upper left]
Leg Container Pack (MH Siren)
Basic field equipment
The container is stored in the lower left leg of the MH Siren. It contains field rescue and survival equipment. Storage is available in both legs.
Field rations (large): 120 meals
Field medical system (for serious operations)
Water: 120 liters
Backpack blankets: 2 (portable frame and litter)
Camping tents: 2
Knight/fatima escape-use civilian clothing (plainclothes)
Inflatable boat
The leg container packs are also used as relief for soldiers and disaster survivors, as Bord and Jabo did in volume 9 [v9p104, Eng. v22p24] so larger quantities are carried than strictly necessary.

[middle left]
Escape Pack (Fatima-use)
Primarily stored in the fatima cockpit in the interior door or under the seat, the storage location varies by MH and nation.
*Fatima are permitted to wield spadds only on the battlefield in defense of their masters.

[image captions, clockwise from top left]
-water purification kit
-filtration unit
-canteen
-chocolate, fruit bar
-spadd
-rope and carabiners
-medical set
-gunpowder
-first aid kit
-underclothes
-knife

[lower right]
Fillmore Empire Combat Rations (1 meal's worth, 100+ varieties available)
200ml Wine: 1 bottle (daily special)
Appetizer: seasonal fruits, liver pâté, etc.
Main dish: Whole grilled Akashi bream and similar options. Garnished with a staple of pasta, pilaf, mashed potato, etc.
Seasonings: pepper, cream, salt, grated cheese, olive oil, mustard
Side dish: 2 scones or 2 sandwiches or 3 cookies
Spread: lard, jam, marmalade, cream cheese, butter
Cheese: gouda cheese, goat cheese, etc.
Snack: mixed nuts, chocolate bonbons, fruit drops, gum
Brewed drinks: coffee, sugar, cream, tea bag, green tea powder, powdered soft drinks
Spoon & Fork
Simple heater (similar to a MRE heater. Produces heat by chemical reaction)
3 napkins, matches, 5 cigarettes

Combat Rations
Essentially similar to modern military MRE rations. These are not emergency supplies but standard field rations. High-calorie items included in the rations like chocolate bars, fruit bars, and youkan (Mirage Knights) are not eaten with the meal, but kept in a pocket to be eaten on the move or during a lull in combat. Even in combat eating these things can easily be fattening, so quantities provided are limited.

[lower left]
Fatima Parasha Field Cooking
Morale and fatigue are affected greatly by whether or not one can take a relaxed meal in the field. It looks like there's no need to wear the formal Plastic suit on the battlefield. Arranged on the ground is a collapsible folding stove. Normally raising smoke is against regulations, but this area has already been supressed so she is burning locally gathered material. To Parasha's right are locally gathered herbs and eggs. The eggs are not from chickens but rather pheasants. She probably searched out a nest and appropriated them. The tablewares are in a picnic basket that came out of the Siren's miscellaneous goods container. It may seem too much like a simple outing, but this kind of thing is surprisingly effective at restoring spirits worn thin by extended battle. Most nations make the midday meal the largest when in the field, eating only simple meals in the morning and evening.

Great! Thanks, levrin. We appreciate the time you're putting into this.

There's 2 more diagram pages from me. Diagram 9 requires re-working the arrows on the image I scanned. I'll try to find time soon.

I spent time last night preparing the image for diagram 10, fatima cockpit. I had to add an arrow. I'll try to finish that layout soon.

That's the 2 cockpits. The next 2 look difficult so don't expect them soon.

That's the last of my lineup of "diagram pages". Comments are welcome.

I need to scan images from Designs 2 for Siren MH Field Supplies and the older fatima cockpit image on page 176. I'll scan the color image on page 175 (Terror Mirage) just in case. I need to layout a page for the article's main text. I'm thinking of showing small, clickable diagram images to add visual interest. However, that will have to wait for another day. My 14 month old son is yelling downstairs...

Are you going to link these pages under the Mortar Headd section, or are you planning to give it its own section?

Currently, the 5 Star Stories section of Gears Online is divided up into headers:
Setting, Story, Nations, Characters, Fatimas, Mortar Headds, Vehicles, Other, Misc.
I see no reason to change the headers. The new MH article that we're putting together is so good that I want to link it in several places. The Neptune's page, the MH main page, the text at the tops of MH by Name and MH by Nation. Are there any other places to link it? What are your thoughts on this?

Absolutely. For sure it needs to be linked from the main MH page. Links in the profiles of the Neptune and Phantom are probably prudent as well. I'm going to promote this page at various websites that I visit where I know some Mecha (and even a few FSS) fans hang out. Hopefully they will generate some new traffic and get discussion going again. Hopefully now that GTM is finished and ready for theatrical release, the manga won't be far behind...

Don't fire me yet! I'm working today on laying out 5 or 6 pages for article text. Nothing to preview yet.

I have created 6 of the 7 pages that will make up this article. I linked text in the pages that mention characters, MH, etc. for which we have pages. I made a paging control to make it easier to go through the article. I haven't scanned the remaining images yet and I haven't added miniature diagram images to the pages yet. I need more time. I also need to make diagram pages for the 2 or 3 images from the MH Field Supplies page.

I hope FSS fans enjoy the article when it's done. Otherwise, I'll feel silly doing all this work.

I found a little time tonight and scanned a few images. I got the old fatima cockpit, the Moonchild etriml, the Siren field supplies (black & white), the Terror Mirage engine diagram, a Knight of Gold color image, and 2 color images showing detailed frescoes on mortar headds (LED Mirage lower leg and KoG shoulder). That should give me what I need to wrap up the Internal Structure of Mortar Headd article. Now, I need to carve out some time to lay out the Siren field supplies page.

I laid out the MH Siren Supplies page. I also wrote some styling code to handle the links to diagram images throughout the article. My work now is coming up with some images to place at the tops of the pages for decoration and finding the right spots to place the 14 links to diagram images. After that I'm done and will load up the whole article at once for review and discussion.

After that I'll put up the Moonchild, Knight of Gold and some other images. I'll also put the recently translated MH Scritti text on the Scritti page. levrin, would it be possible to translate the text for the Terror Mirage engine on page 175 of Designs 2?

I have to work on my oldest son's school project this weekend but I may have some time tonight.
