Favorite classic anime

Post by Daishikaze » Fri Oct 29, 2004 12:00 am

The same as the Favorite Mecha anime thread, except that I'm asking for classic anime from any genre( except hentai, not interested)
Dr. Mystico: I'll build a private army of super-apes and take over Cleveland!
Cosgrove: Don't you mean the world?
Dr. Mystico: I meant the world, yes. What did I say? Cleveland? Oh, I *always* do that!

I found that I still love Tetsuwan Atom (AKA Astro Boy)...This is the first anime ever, and it's still good by today standard. (At least those with open mind) Some dramatic episode might make you cry... (My younger brother miraclely purchase some VCD of this series, and I still enjoy it.) I really believe Tetsuka Osamu is god now...

All Hail the mighty Great Tezuka!...........................................um.............Hail?

I haven't seen any of his work yet, But I want to see Tezuka's Phoenix Saga, because I have heard great things about it.

Favorite classic movies:

Macross: Do you Remember Love?

Castle Of Cagliostro

Galaxy Express 999 1 & 2

Arcadia Of My Youth

Dagger Of Kamui

Project A-ko

Gundam Trilogy & Char's Counter Attack

Crusher Joe

Urusei Yatsura movies 1-5

All Miyazaki films.

These are in no particular order of course.

series

Urusei Yatsura

Zeta Gundam

Bubblegum Crisis 2032

Crying Freeman

Guyver

Dominion Tank Police

Macross

Mospeada

Southern Cross

Yamato

Again, in no particular order, its really hard for me to list like I wish I could, but I haven't been able to see as many classics as I want, so I have to go by what I have seen, Hopefully I can remedy that in the future

What exactly do you consider classic? You mean one of those timeless ones? Maybe Neon Genesis Evangelion.

When I refer to Classic anime, I mean anime from the 60s, 70s, & 80s. Thats why all the shows listed so far are from those time periods. I think alot of anime from these era's don't get alot of respect these days, in fact this is the first anime forum that I have ever been to where people actually talk about older anime in a positive light. Very few classics meet the approval of the fickle fans of today.

I figured since we have alot of fans of classic anime here that I would ask what their favorites are.

When I think of classic anime I think of the Captain Harlock TV series. I saw an Americanized version but the quality showed through.
If you don't like the news then go make some of your own.

Non-mecha classic anime that I like... hmmm...

I'd have to say Speed Racer and Lupin III.

As for mecha: Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, and SDF Macross. (DYRL being my favorite animated film, period.) And although it may not fit into the mecha catagorey persay, I LOVE the old SD Gundam OVAs.

L-Gaim will be added to that list, once I'm able to actually SEE some of it. :(

Mmh I see Daishikaze quoted all Miyazaki films as classic movies, so I'll go with "My Neighbour Totoro".
This movie is amaizing, a pure moment of joy and happyness, then when it ends you look around like "oh... back to the real world... :| "

Oddly enough, I have a real fondness for "Leda: Fantastic Adventure of Yohko" and especially for "Windaria".

Dai missed out one of my fav Miyazaki series - Conan

Its not that conan but the prototype for many of his later characters - think Laputa meets Marineboy - its prety cool and very touching.

But other than that I guess...

Does `Starfleet` fit in here?
Guyver
Ranma 1/2 always made me giggle but havent seen it in years

and obviously Atom/Astroboy.

I remember racing home after school when I was little to watch 'Star Blazers'. So I'm gonna have to go with the Yamato on this one.

Those of us who had our first intro to anime remember it by its American (and therefore correct... :D ) name: Star Blazers!

I also developed an early liking for Gatiger and Harlock.

My favorite non-mecha classic would have to be either Star Blazers or Speed Racer , the later is the frst anime I ever watched , about 1973 or 74 . My favorite classic mecha series would be either Golion or Dairruger ( Sp. ) XV , I watched them as Voltron and then a friend of mine had them in their original , untranslated forms , can't say I knew what was going on in the untranslated versions , but they were great anyway.
Do you understand?
