It's for playstation, similiar to zone of the ender gameplay, but with a Macross style "dogfight" feel to it. That's about the only cool thing about it and Kawamori Shoji did the mecha designs for that game. :)

Yeah, I have an Omega Boost book with some nice art by Kawamori. Looks like his Battletech stuff, sorta.

It's also REALLY, REALLY difficult towards the end of the game even on easy...

I played it at one point years ago, I no longer have a copy. At some point I need to pick up another one.

I have OB , but my PS1 died  Great game and the dogfights are very Macross , right down to the missile swarms . I always hated the tunnel fight against the spider like mecha , took me a while to get the hang of missing the structural members of the tunnel . The little movie of the OB opening a Macross main gun sized can of hurt on those big battlecruisers was one of my favorite parts of the game .
Do you understand?

I got a nice-price 2nd-hand OB too. Forgot I had it. There's a whole live-action movie sequence at the beginning, better than many DVD films I've rented recently...

and that reminds me that I've not watched the movie bits in Battle Engine Aquilla yet. For Shame.

The good news is that those who missed Omega Boost the first time around have an opportunity....if you own a PS3 and a PSP. Once they have it available for download on the PS3 Network, buy it, and transfer it to your PSP to play on the go.

Thats one tittle I'm going to keep my eye on, as I didn't get to play it last time around.

Omega Boost is probably has the best implementation of space based mecha combat in a game.

Well, here we are 4 years later, and Omega boost still is not available for download via PSN :(

Neither is Xenogears or Legend of Dragoon :( :( :(

Your gaming tastes are very similar to my brother's. I hope your luck changes soon.
