Anyone else caught this? I did not have an opportunity to watch this anime before this. All I can say is wow. The writing is really very well done and the underlying tempo prevents the "who do we shoot this week" effect. It's a pretty edgy show and it looks like the tragedy level is somewhere between the Prequel Star Wars and Shakespeare's Hamlet. The curious thing is, I'd swear the actual plot is really close to King Lear. Careful though 'cause if you are looking for bright and happy, this is probably not an anime you want to catch - Sunrise isn't known for happy anime plots. Some of the developments are quite poignant and after watching all 25 initial episodes I was like, "Man..WTF?!...what a bummer...whoa, didn't see that coming."
The mecha designs are first class, again, following Sunrise's penchant for at least semi-realistic mecha machines.

Thanks for the info. I've been meaning to watch Code Geass but haven't been able to up until now. Your recommendation has moved it my "must acquire" list.
If you don't like the news then go make some of your own.

what's you people take on the design of robots in Geass? I have seen the animated pictures up to episode 6, but they don't look all that attractive compares to any of the super robot series, there is a lack of details

Re: Code Geass R1 season on YOUTube
The designs are very "VOTOM" and are probably more hardline "realistic" than a typical SRW mecha. I like them, but then, I almost always prefer realistic designs or, at least, something that looks small enough that it could be built with something approaching current tech. Sunrise has a lot of mecha shows that go for small, maneuverable over large and enormous.
I' not sure I liked the tassel deals hanging from the rear of some of the mecha you see later on - what are those? Counterbalance? Strange.
At first, I wasn't too sure I liked the mecha either as much as I liked the show. I still (and probably am in the minority) Studio Sunrise's best mecha designs were Blue Gender, but hey, the story is good, so whatever ya know?
Although, I hear the 2nd Season was/is a major letdown compared to the first and the writing/plot goes off into a sort-of Evangelion "mindbender WTH?!" approach.

I'll skip try to collect this series' DVD then. The robot design isn't that attractive, and unless super robot like mazinger, there isn't a lot of weapons
