Spammers Happen
I deleted a porn post in FSS Talk just now. Even with our heightened security spammers still get through now and then.
Sorry about the spam but we're working to reduce it.

They keep coming, so they must think it's worth it. I just got my internet back on a little while ago, it went out last night and was off all day and evening, so I haven't been able to check the boards. Between AEPs sudden power outages and Time Warners cable outages it's been a challenge to get on line the past two days.

Do you understand?
If they're posting automatically anyway, remember I talked about a anti-spam I've seen on another messageboard that prevents posting as long as there's a forbidden word. So just ban anythign drug, pr0n or bank/casino related, and you're pretty much free from spam.
If they're human, they'll have to find other words, and in a few weeks/months anything they can think of will be forbidden, or their posts simply won't make much sens.
If you're interested I can ask the webmaster the name of the anti-spam, or if he did it himself.
Have you guys read that article about how a bot is (at least for now) totally unable to tell a cat from a dog, while a human can instantly ?
This could be the next best anti-spam solution^^ rather than twisted picture so deformed the human can't even read them anymore, while spambots can

Thanks for the suggestions, Falk. Unfortunately, the new breed of spammers have login names just like ours, no URLs and clean-looking Email addresses (and very different ones).
I can't find anything in common between the accounts of these new spammers. I personally look over every message board new account request and they look very legit.

Those are good indicators, yes. This new breed of spammers often have .com and .net, though. I'm beginning to think someone is angry at Gears Online. In my times I've noticed that most spammers have email addresses that end in ".ru" or ".biz" or ".info".
