Macross Mecha Manual Updated

Post by Mr March » Wed Oct 31, 2007 2:20 pm

Hello everyone. I'm Mr March (obviously, hehehe) and I run a website called the Macross Mecha Manual. Perhaps some of the membership here has already seen it, but I thought I'd join Gears website and post notice. I typically join a few new forums every update to spread word of my website to as many mecha fans as possible. Gearsonline was recommended to me by some members on AnimeNation and when I visited the website, I realized I had been here a few times before and didn't realize the site had forums. I know, silly me :)

So here is a link to my website:

Macross Mecha Manual

EDIT Updated link to new address as of February 2008

It's just been updated with plenty of new content. I hope you enjoy.

MAJOR UPDATE

I am pleased to once again release more updates for the Macross Mecha Manual. Today features 30 new profiles but the primary focus of this update is to properly revise and correct existing content. The website has been a learning experience and vehicle profiles have been refined as more were released. Looking back it's clear some of the first profiles suffer from low resolution scans, poor quality colored art, grammatical/spelling errors and a lack of organization. To correct these shortcomings, the four main VF-1 profiles (VF-1A, D, J and S) have been completely revised as well as most of the other VF-1 entries. I encourage all fans to take another look at these updated profiles. Some improvements may not be obvious, but at the very least visitors will appreciate the new content and organization.

Along with the major revisions comes the new color code system, implemented in the VF-1 profiles and the Macross 7 section. The color code system is designed to draw the reader's attention to the technical details of vehicle variants that differ from the standard model. I'm hoping this improves reading and quick reference. The system is just a test at this point and I'm eager for feedback. I think it's a great new addition, but some may find legitimate fault. Please feel free to share your thoughts.

This update has debuts-a-plenty with the new Books section, the Macross Game and Advanced Valkyrie section and the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section. I'm also happy to add another hilarious feature to the Humor section titled "Pimp My Valkyrie." Last but not least, the holy grail of line art has been found! Totoro242 of the Macross World message boards has provided a high resolution scan of the elusive Megaroad-01 line art (which I have now colored). A big thanks to this generous Macross fan!

The following is a list of all the new Macross mecha added in this update:

Hello, Mr March! It's great to hear you update the site.

By the way, is there seperate section on non-Macross mecha? I remember you have Patlabor profile somewhere on the site too but can't find the section.
Justice will never lose!

Thanks again! It really means the world to see fans enjoy the effort put into the site. There's more to come, so make sure to keep visiting. I'll make certain to post more updates here.

Kuruni
Hi there! Yup, and more stuff is on the way. With all the sound force crap out of the way, the next update will be filled with good wholesome death and destruction via giant robots with real guns :) I've got half a dozen new profiles already complete and another half dozen well under way. Make sure to keep visiting!

I have a small homage section to some mecha that I love from other shows, that's where the Patlabor AV-98 Ingram can be found. It's under Features and then Icons of Mecha. Here's a link to the section:

Perhaps I'll simplify the menus next update to make navigation easier.

MAJOR UPDATE!
Macross Mecha Manual Version 2.0 (Our One-Year Anniversary!)

It's 2008 and the Macross Mecha Manual celebrates it's first birthday! It's been a lot of work and I want to thank all the fans for visiting and supporting this website (including patiently enduring the recent server switch which had us down for a while). Today the Macross Mecha Manual not only features an update with 50 new profiles but also a website-wide revision making this one of the most important updates in the M3's history. Without a doubt, 2008 is going to be a big year for Macross as the newest animated television series in the franchise, Macross Frontier, begins airing in Japan in April. This past December fans were treated to a special promotional release of the first episode of Macross Frontier and the reviews have been largely positive from the fans and the larger anime community. It's an exciting time for Macross and I hope this website helps fans world wide enjoy the newest jewel of this long time science fiction franchise!

This update also adds Information Headers to all sections of the website. The headers feature production information and relevant trivia for each Macross anime. These headers will help website navigation as well as provide fans and non-fans alike with relevant reference points for properly placing each vehicle within the larger Macross continuity.

The new Macross production titled Macross Frontier now has a very rudimentary section on the Macross Mecha Manual. It is my hope that line art for Macross Frontier is made available much faster and in a more comprehensive book than that which was published for Macross Zero.

Macross World forum member Dante74 has created Custom Banners for each section of the website as well as new Navigation Buttons. I am extremely pleased to present his work and hope that these new additions make the website even more enjoyable for our visitors. Lastly, the for fans only section debuts which contains fan-made line art, custom color schemes, variant squadron colors, wallpapers, line art comparison pictures and other miscellaneous goodies. Due to visitor feedback, I've simplified the website by relocating Features and Humor (along with the sub-sections) into the new for fans only section.

Refer to the list below for all the new profiles in this update.

Great site Mr. March. I've known about your site for over a year now and I really like the new updates. Keep up the great work. I was wondering, do you have plans on upgrading your material on Macross II: Lovers Again? I know that some Macross purists consider Macross II to be noncanon, but I'm a fan of the mecha designs.

Thanks for visiting and enjoying my website Monster. I have no objection to including Macross II on the M3, it's just been the lowest priority so far. The problems with Macross II is my unfamiliarity with it (I saw it only once or twice years years ago and disliked it) and the near total lack of official statistics for the mecha. But don't worry, I'm not actively excluding it just because I don't like it or because of it's status outside of the official Macross continuity. Macross 7 sucked ass and I still included that show on the M3 :)

Nonetheless, at the very least, the Macross II section and the VF-2SS will debut in the next update. It's likely the Macross II section will not be as fleshed out as the other sections due to demands of time and lack of mecha information. I'll sneak in what I can before Macross Frontier takes priority.

I'd have to agree with you Mr March, the amount of information available on Macross II mecha is pretty limited. But any info and, most especially, any pictures you can put up would be greatly appreciated. :D Thanks and keep up the good work.

I saw an interesting picture of the VF2S years ago. It was done for one of the Anime Expo conventions (it was in their programing guide). It was a VF2S done with FAST Packs instead of the SAP used in Macross 2. The picture was absolutely gorgeous. I've since lost the booklet it could be found in and have been searching for that picture ever since with no luck. Anyone know what the hell I'm talking about?

Yo March:

I think I can help with Macross II. When I illustrated the Macross II RPG for Palladium, I got the mecha model sheets to work from. Needless to say, I kept them.

So, you've got plenty of Mac II lineart for your site. They're copies of the original Koichi Ohata design work. Just message me if you need it.

Can't say that I have. But like I said, I'm not the expert on Macross II. Saw it once and never again :) If you ever find it though, I'd definitely like to see it. Rare stuff like that would make an ideal addition to the M3.

Newton
I am looking for some Macross II line art, in very high resolutions.

I'm working on a Macross II section, but work is slow because I have few scans. The MII section should appear in the next update, but will likely be small.

I'm glad you like the website. Make sure to keep visiting.
