Every time they debut one of these new SEED Gundams I like to play a little game called "Which old Gundams does this steal parts from?" (excluding, of course, other SEED designs.) Frankly I think the Destiny is ugly, but still.

What ripped parts can you spot?

Hmm... the wings from Epyon, and the head from the RX-78. I dunno.

Some guy from another forum commented that SEED/Destiny is meant to pay tribute to previous series, so i guess that's why we see so many similarities. Dunno if what he said is the official word?

For me, I see that the wings are partly copied from Wing Gundam, and also from V2 Gundam for the "blazing wings" effect. The palm of Destiny seem to hint a beam gun, remind me of God/Shining Gundam... At least the face mask is a new design, different from the standard "two lines on the face" look, and I welcome the change :D (Juz like why i like Zeta face - looks very much diff from other Gundams. Psycho Gundam Mk2 face looks  too)

Whole colour scheme remind me of Zeta Gundam with Wing Gundam's wings...

...sigh

This summs up pretty much all my feelings towards the SEED series.
Ridiculous.

Never thought myself of as an 'old Gundam fan' until I realized how disappointed I was at SEED.

Oh, wow!
That has to be the Psycho Gundam, huh? :D
Wonder if Stella would get to pilot it and then die in the arms of Shin.

...PLEASE don't do that to us Mr. Fukuda... :(

Destroy Gundam

Post by kosh » Wed Mar 23, 2005 11:29 am

Like to see the Zeta Gundam stroll up , start to giggle uncontrolably and then stomp that Psycogundam wannabe straight in a mudhole and then proceed to the rest of the Gundams in Destiny . Just a lovely thought , shame it won't happen . What's the next SEED series going to be ? " Homages " to the ZZ and CCA era gundams ? I hope they leave Sentinel alone , that's sacred ground they shouldn't touch .
Do you understand?

Looking at the large pic, I'm getting a terrifying idea.
What if this guy puts the large UFO on his head and hunch down a little.
It turns into a Big-Zam!
Even has clawed feet and all...
With two cannons now.
Dozul would be proud... :x

I've heard from a few people that Studio Sunrise is claiming Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny are "tributes" to earlier Gundam shows. I work in marketing and to me that claim sounds like a marketing doubletalk. Little more than a clever way of saying, "We're going to rip off earlier shows but we're not going to admit it."

Well said Tachyon!
I agree with everyone= it's a ridiculous rip-off of old MSG and Z.

Rubel:

Thanks for posting the big picture of the Double-Psycho-Disco-Zeta-Hackum-Squackum Gundam thingie. I hadn't noticed the double beam barbells on its back until now... It just keeps getting worse, doesn't it?

Personally, I wish somebody would tell Mr. Okawara that just slapping a disc on a mech's back doesn't make it different - or interesting. Oh well, it's nice, in a perverse sort of way, to see that FrankenGundams are now the style at Sunrise, too. Kinda lowers the bar for the fans here Stateside...

Who knows? Maybe someday we'll see some real Gundam design work again (other than fan designs).
