only be non-scale. As you said, there are no listed details on the exact size of Yen-Xing, but furthermore, when it appeared in the manga it wasn't drawn in such a way that a nice simple size comparison (to a human, for example) could be made. It could be normal MH size, it could be Jagd mirage size... no one really knows. All we
do know is that a Yen-Xing engine fits inside The Empress. And that a Chivalry/Chevalier/whatever they are called fits inside a Yen-Xing.

What I meant by 'best guess' is.... Tani assumed that the Yen Xing would be more or less comparable to MH size. I think this was a safe assumption, since the Yen Xings appear to be fairly small compared to the floating warship things they are seen to slice to ribbons.
I think this assumption is supported by the fact that the Empress and Mess Auge, two other machines from the Super Empire era, are also MH-sized. If the Auge is a Machine Messiah, and the Yen Xing is a Machine Messiah... it makes plenty of sense for them to be sized similarly.
It can't be labelled as anything other than no-scale, which it is. Thankfully.

Tani obviously made a conscious decision to make his Yen-Xing more or less the same size as most regular 1:100's, but that does not mean it is 1:100. It is non scale.
Yes, it's always going to be technically non-scale, until such time as official measurements are released. But frankly, I doubt that will ever happen, and I'd be surprised if the Yen Xing ever shows up in manga again.
Having said all that, I do understand the gist of what you are saying... it doesn't look out of place displayed next to 1:100 MH kits, so you think of it as 1:100.
Indeed. That's exactly how I think of it. Pretty much all of Nagano's humanoid mecha in FSS have been of roughly the same size. There's variations of course, but the only HUGELY differently sized machine is the Jagd. So until Nagano says that Yen Xing is Jagd sized, or even mini-sized... the safest assumption is that it's around the same size as its contemporary machines. Empress and Mess Auge.
In reality, the Yen Xing could be 1/110? Or 1/90? Or somewhere in between.... but I really doubt that it could be as small as 1/144, or as large as 1/72, 1/60, etc...
It's all just guesswork though.
As for the Tani issue... I for one would like to see a new Volks Yen-Xing (or three

). I think Hirai could do this design justice. My original Yen-Xing (the only Kaiyodo kit I own) is not particularly well cast and I would love to see this fantastic design rendered in CLEANLY cast Volks detail rather than somewhat badly cast Tani detail.
It's always interesting how castings vary... I remember Vincent Valentine talking about how disappointed he was with his original Volks MM Bang Doll. Whereas I've found my Volks stuff to be very good. And similarly, in this case... you've got issues with your copy of the Yen Xing, whereas my copy seems pretty much flawless to me. It's all the luck of the draw I guess...
I wouldn't want to see a Volks Yen Xing, only because I'd rather see them use their limited time/resources to do more stuff that hasn't been done at all yet... even though I'm not the biggest fan of these designs, I'd still like kits of T-233, Siren R, and Groon. And I REALLY want a good Heavy Cross Mirage... but I tell ya, at this point, I'd even be happy to see Volks release a Black Phantom. They've been awfully quiet over there at Volks.
