FSS Pages - Update on Updates

Post by Tachyon » Sat Jun 28, 2008 10:10 pm

Hello, FSS fans. I apologize for taking so long to add new content to the FSS pages. Hopefully, I'm not causing anyone any trouble.

I wanted to let everyone know that I once again have access to a decent scanner. My office bought a new beefy, extra large printer/scanner/copier/whats-it. It has a scanning window that is 11" x 17" and seems to work pretty well. I have official permission to use it after hours and on weekends for personal use.

If anyone would like to request images or other new stuff for the FSS pages (or something else) please let me know.

Sweet! I've been itching to get back to writing profiles again. Hathua should be next I think. We've covered AKD, Colus and Filmore. After Hathua we should probably cover Bakin Rakin/Lent, Kolbalkan, Magic Kingdom and Super Empire.

I also want to do the article on the Dragons soon, then other entities (gods, demons, etc)

Still a ton of stuff to cover.

I would kill for some high resolution scans of some FSS mecha and pictures. Do you know whats out there on the net for FSS wallpaper? Me neither, because I don't think they exist :)

I'm way too much of a FSS newb to know what's out there as far as line art, paintings and other art work for the franchise. You'd be better off using your judgment as to what would make good wallpapers, if you're willing to take some scans for a good cause :)

Perhaps a scan of the cover painting for Issue #1 (always loved that one). There's several really nice pictures in the Knight of Gold and LED Mirage profiles here at gears; close ups of the head and a few others. In big resolutions, they'd make killer wallpapers. Any beauty shots, like the Juno 3096 drawing from pages 78-79 of issue #7. Stuff like that. Basically anything that would make a good wallpaper for my computer in high resolutions. The bigger the better, 1600x1200 being ideal. One can always downsize digitized pictures to suit the desktop size, but you can't upsize them. Such is digital :)

Oh, a few such high resolution scans of the Mortar Headds would be cool too. The KOG, the Bang Doll, the LED Mirage, the Jagd Mirage, Juchoon, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Terror, and the MMs.

Whoops, asked for quite a bit didn't I? Oh well, I'll be happy with just a few really nice wallpapers if you can spare the time.

Mr March, many of the images on the FSS pages have been shrunken down to make them work better for people with certain resolution monitors and slower Internet connections. Post URLs for specific images and I'll see if I have higher resolution versions saved on my hard drive.

You have Photoshop, right?

I wasn't suggesting a change to the gears site; my apologies if I came across that way. Website navigation and presentation is more important than high resolution images. I know the large majority of users seem to favor 1024x768 resolution. My own website uses much smaller pictures as well because of that specific reason. Actually, I think you and I both use near identically sized pictures for our sites. Great minds think alike :)

I'm just looking for good, high resolution FSS wallpaper. I run my desktop at 1280x1024, which I know is higher than most. So I'm always on the lookout for bigger wallpapers, especially 1600x1200. I can always resize them down myself and crop them to fit a particular resolution.

As for specific pictures, the Mortar Headds I listed would be good, just a higher resolution version of standard color front pose of each. That would be the first picture shown at the top of each Mortar Head's profile page.

As far as the beauty shots, here's the specific ones I was talking about which should give you a good idea what I'm looking for:

Bang Doll

Empress Flame

Jagd Mirage

KOG

http://www.gearsonline.net/fss/mh/kog/kog-face2.jpg
http://www.gearsonline.net/fss/mh/kog/kog-movie-09.jpg

LED Mirage

http://www.gearsonline.net/fss/mh/led/led-face2.jpg
http://www.gearsonline.net/fss/mh/led/led8.jpg (this one's already big, but a bigger version would be croppable)

Vatshu

Juno 3096 (top of this page)

If there's any other shots like that, they'd make great wallpapers. Like I said, I'm not sure what art books or calendars or other art materials exist for FSS. I'm the newb and don't have much FSS books, just the first 7 issues of the english adaptation and the FFS movie DVD. But I'm basically just looking for beauty shots like the ones listed above.

I should have time this week to burn a DVD. Most of the images you've listed are ones I have saved on my hard drive as PSD files. Some are a little bigger and some are much bigger.

Once I have a chance to complete the DVD I'll ask you for an address you'd like me to mail it to. Us mecha fans have to stick together. No need to thank me. Other mecha fans have done a lot more than this for me.

That's sounds great, but I can make it even easier for you. I can give you a guest account for my webspace and you can just upload via FTP at your convenience.

Sounds great. You can private message or Email me the details. I'm writing a note to remind me to check the Five Star Stories folder when I return home.
