Unofficial English translation for Prima Classe Hugtrang

I thought I'll try to do an unofficial English translation for Prima Classe Hugtrang, the short story at the end of Book 12. Scans used are from another unofficial site and I'm translating from the unofficial Chinese translation already there so some things might get lost in...translation =X But I'll try my best!

(and please not to be using my bandwidth if you want to reproduce the scans somewhere else! =@)

Wacha: Wait a minute! Are we really going to charge right in there?!
Hugtrang: This is a good opportunity! Five knight troops and support groups are having a melee right now! Please leave it to me! For Master to get some actual battle experience, I am choosing the weakest knight and MH for you!
Wacha: Re..aally?? I'm believing you then...
Hugtrang: This child is equipped with a sweeping monitor and tracking so we can definitely find the slowest MH for you!
Hugtrang (speaking to herself): Pfft! Everywhere I see is a bunch of rubbish, so many excellent MHs but not a single worthy knight...if I can only meet that Black MH, that's what I came for...



Hugtrang (speaking to herself): Even those knights with a Kensai position are not good enough for me...these small fishes here, even if there's 20 of them, they're not enough to make me full...
Wacha: Did...did you say something, Emily??
Hugtrang: No, I didn't say anything! Ah, found! A very weak MH with sluggish movements. Let's use the Stealth mode and finish this MH off while the rest are still pre-occupied!
Wacha: Which...which one are you talking about?
Hugtrang: It's this one, Master!


Wacha: You're, you're lying! Why do I feel he's very very strong?!

Xing: Isn't it a headliner family of Delta Belune? And a pretty low one at that since I've never heard of it. Perhaps it's a little rude saying so, even if she gets credit for fighting here, it won't help much?
Rognar: Maybe so....
Xing: Exactly! And dependent on that blur Fatima and that ludicrously painted and stingy MH, what use can it be?! Stupid!
Xing (referring to Wascha): Forget about getting some credit on the battlefield! As long as you're not injured...even if you are injured, as long as you don't get decapitated, I can fix you...
Rognar: Stingy...MH...such a fearless declaration...I will pretend I never heard it. But you really have never heard of that Fatima before?
Rognar: That is Dr. Ballanche's greatest creation, Hugtrang. The super Fatima that all the meights and knights in the Joker System are madly looking for.
Xing: What the f*** are you talking about? You snivelling little brat!

Xing: Who do you think I am! I am Fatima Meight, Xing Sakurako! One of the Four Great Meights of Joker! You've been talking nonsense since just now! What a rude little brat!
Rognar: The way you're standing now is dangerous...
Rognar: Whatever. That Fatima will always hide her identity in order to avoid inconveniences. Even Morard who realised Intercity's true self could not...oh well, she's always been like that. Hugtrang really wanted to fight a fight...
Ashura Temple Knight: Ah...what's up with this MH? Its half-baked sword attacks are neither painful nor itchy...what the hell! But it managed to dodge my attacks!
Ashura Temple Fatima: Master, be careful! The opponent is not as simple as it looks!
Ashura Temple Knight: I know! They could actually get in right beside without me realising!



Hugtrang: It's really weak! Look, its attacks are completely useless! Seems like we can win easily, Master!
Wacha: Re...really? We can win?
Rognar: That MH...it's a Mejojo Ashura Temple knight. The headliner is Kensai Torrie Pedoar...one of the strongest knights in this battle.
Xing: Huh? What do you mean?
Rognar: You really don't know anything...even about Hugtrang. Are you really a Meight?
Xing: Although I don't know anything about Hugtrang but regarding that Fatima, I already know so much that I don't want to know anymore! Little brat! You want me to tell you!
Rognar: That's why I said you standing there like that is dangerous...

So now the story switches to Promenade and then later will further switch to the past where Wacha first met Hugtrang. So Prima Classe Hugtrang is like a story within a story within a story


Wacha: That was in the past. 5 years ago. During that cold winter, I -Cha-Ti - slowly made my way forward while warming numb hands...



Xing: Hey, isn't your friend here yet? Just like Cha-Ti, always so slow...
Cha-Ti: Don't say it until like that...Senpai. She's very pathetic. Her parents died and she's a super-shy child. She was really looking forward to our reunion this holiday. But Senpai insisted on dragging me along...
Xing: That's why I said I will pay for that child's traveling expenses too
Emily: I'm sorry I'm late...



Cha-Ti: This is my friend, Emily...
Emily: Nice...nice to...
Xing (thought): This is bad!
Onlookers: Oh, she's so cute...
Xing (thought): Damn! Until now, 99% of male attention has been focused on me and 1% on Cha-Ti (except for kids). But...but if this fellow comes along...

Woods: If you're not clear on anything, you can ask Miss Lucy, who is in charge of the maids and you.
Woods: I will let you understand how hard it is to work for a living, hohoho
Cha-Ti (thought): So this was how I began my maid life. Because of a connection, I managed to get a job in this high-class mansion. Actually the master of this house is long dead and there isn't much guests now so I guess I'm lucky. But I have to get up at 5pm every morning and change so it's hard too as it's so cold....



Cha-Ti: Heh heh, Dad's coat is a mess of repairs too, and Sis also mended her stockings before rewearing.
Cha-Ti (thought): The maids wear a colourful uniform and a hat with an apron in the day. At night, we change to a black uniform. This compliments the male staff's tuxedo style uniforms as well. As we can't wash our uniforms everyday, we change the collars and the cuffs instead. Once the morning chores are done, we prepare the master's breakfast (although he's no longer around). Then it's our breakfast time. Oh yes, yes, there's also different grades of staff in this house. The highest is of course the housekeeper, followed by the butler, the cook. The head maid or the nanny (but this house doesn't have one) is the highest among the maids. The next grade would be the maids who wait on the dining table. I belong to the maids who does the chores and tidies the rooms. It's all very complicated.
Maid: Cha! Mr Woods is looking for you~~~
Cha: Yes!
Cha-Ti (thought): Just when I was getting used to life here, that girl appeared before me.

Woods: Let me introduce. This is Emily. Emily, this is Cha-Ti.
Woods: Emily, what's wrong? You're the one who wanted this. Don't just keep your head down.
Emily: Miss...Cha...nice...nice...meeting you...Em, Em...I'm...I'm....Em...mi....mi...ly....pleased...to....meet....you.....
Cha-Ti (thought): Miss Cha? Huh? I thought we weren't allowed to use honorifics among ourselves.
Cha-Ti: Just call me Cha-Ti
Woods: It's alright. Emily has always been like this.



Woods: As you can see, this child is very shy. She cannot work in public so we have let her work in the annex or basement. She's such a girl. She seems to have taken a liking to you and even insisted that I introduce you to her.
Woods: She will be staying in your room from now on. You can go, Emily.
Emily: Yes....I will take my leave now.
Cha-Ti: Same room? I'm okay with it but there won't be any problems?
Woods: Cha, Please take care of that child. As you know, the late master adopted many children from many places. That girl is an orphan. The master knew her parents who were distinguished scientists and they were killed in a war. Master adopted her. It could be post traumatic syndrome but she's been afraid to meet other people eversince.



Woods: The master adopted 45 children in his life but the best among them is that child. Although she has never attended university, she has gained a degree through self-study. And she has written many scientific papers and thesis. Yes...she is a genius. She is also gifted in many languages including English, French, German, Spanish and Arabic. And she even recently taught herself Japanese, Chinese and Korean through something called the internet.
Cha-Ti: Waaa!!!! Really?
Cha-Ti (thought): So that's how my life with that girl began.
Cha-Ti: I feel like my hair is getting out of control...
Cha-Ti (thought): I gradually started noticing...and I realise what that first feeling I had was when I first saw Emily...



Cha-Ti (thought): This girl is.....GORGEOUS!
Cha-Ti (thought): She's super cute. She's super smart. Everything she does is perfect. Does this mean......
Cha-Ti: Is the world doing this to me deliberately?
Cha-Ti (thought): Maybe that's why she is so shy and does everything so quietly and low-key? Because she gets bullied by jealous girls so she developed an introvert complex? But I can't develop any sympathy for her. Normally if someone is very cute, there's still some flaws. Like 'the face is too wide' or 'the legs are too thick' or 'the waist is too large' but this girl.......

please continue! I enjoyed it and would love to see more. it makes sense, so the translation is probably close. (its when they don't make sense that the translation is poorly done, i.e. the chinese subtittled version of The FSS animation)

There was some stuff for volume 11 & 12 floating around these boards, but they were removed when the official tankoubans were released. Maybe we can keep an archive somewhere?

Nu Soard Graphite>> I looked up my own official Chinese copy of volume 12 and it seems like the unofficial translations and official one doesn't differ all that much. So I'll continue posting Prima Classe Hugtrang (until someone tells me I violated copyright laws or something, lol)

I posted scans of pages that were collected in volumes 11 and 12 that FSS fans had submitted to Gears Online. I took them off the site when volumes 11 and 12 were published for a number of reasons:
The pages were only in Japanese with no translations. Gears Online tries to cater (primarily) to English speakers.
For reasons unknown to me, the pages were getting very heavy traffic from countries where Chinese is the main language. It was draining site bandwidth. It wasn't threatening to choke off the site but the bandwidth usage was so heavy it wasn't hard to convince me to take the pages down.
Once the Japanese manga volumes were published I didn't feel like displaying the pages on Gears Online was doing much of a service for FSS fans. Fans savvy enough to find Gears Online are also savvy enough to buy their own copies of the manga - and isn't it easier on the eyes to read from paper than from a computer monitor?
I didn't want Nagano's company and the manga publishers to feel like Gears Online was threatening their copyright. This wasn't a big concern to me but it entered my thoughts. A fan translation can come under the header of "fandom" but just straight Japanese manga pages is harder to justify as a fan project.
I'm not entirely against posting the pages again but I would need someone to talk me into it. And, let's face it, I can't promise I would be convinced.

I'm happy to hear that FSS fans feel like Gears Online is doing something for them. I hope in the future Gears Online continues to gain the good will of FSS fans. I'm also unhappy about how hard it is to find fan translations of any FSS material. Personally, I think part of the reason is the difficulty of the material. Lots of technical terms, made-up words and references to a detailed world.

That's what makes the subject of this thread so very interesting. If no one finds real problems with this fan translation I'd like to offer to Photoshop the pages and try to fit the English into the panels (erasing the Chinese characters). Posting it up on the Gears Online FSS pages would be a lot of fun for FSS fans. Now that Gears Online has a newsfeed for its updates I think more people are taking notice when new material is posted for FSS.

I totally agree with what Tachyon had said - regarding the taking down of NT scans pages and also editing the manga pages with the english text (much easier to read).
