No worries at all; I'm largely of the same opinion. Mecha anime is generally awful, only the market changes. Mecha anime is created for teenage boys in Japan every bit as much as Michael Bay's Transformers film is created for teenage boys in the U.S. And like all such entertainment aimed at being disposable, it's of relatively little merit beyond throwaway, escapist entertainment.

Few productions offer anything more for an older, more discerning taste. Productions like Gundam 0080, Macross Plus and Patlabor Films 1 & 2 that offer more substance than common mecha fodder fare are few indeed. But those that do are ever more impressive for the quality they bring to their own genre...and for transcending it.
