Can anyone recommend a good introductory text about mecha or sci-fi modelling (or modelling in general). I have some kits I'd like to try, but haven't built a model since I was a kid!

Now I must first add that I have only recently pickled up the exacto knife and airbrush for the first time in over 15 years myself and have only contructed 3 kits so far.

So Im not the one to listen too for actual advice but It does mean Ive spent a lot of time trawling the net and also book stores for usefull info - I will take a little time tomorow and compile a list of favourite sites and a few books that Ive purchased. Beyond that youd do well to goto the Five Star Stories section here at gears and ask specific questions there as many of them are realy good at what they do - its worth checking out for the pics alone.

All the best and check back here for some links on Wednesday PM.

Thanks so much ST, glad to see that I'm not the only one going back to this, and looking forward to the links!

No Problems - heres what I had handy -

http://www.mechamaniac.com/ - great guy and his builds are all documented and fully explained.

http://www.childofmecha.com/ - great site with updates and help - also a good forum to knock around ideas and beg for help.

http://www.rainbowten.co.jp/ - cant recommend this guys work enuf - not sure how helpfull it is for the novice (like myself) but its certainly inspiring and the links are good.

http://mechaworks.qsurf.org/Compy/compy.html - good basic tuts and advice on tools etc - plus his work is nice n simple.

http://www.roboterkampf.com/roboterhtml ... /index.htm - just because I love the MaK vehicles and this guys blog is the only one Ive actually bothered to read more than once in passing.

http://www.luft46.com/luftart.html - not all models but I just love Luft46 - not built anything yet but I have a few CG models Im working on.

Hope that helps as a start - most of those sites have help, or links to it - also heres one that I have a hand in

http://scifimodels.org.uk/ - Im currently running a Gundam Pod competition to start in May and go on 2 months - being as its a sci-fi site and not a gundam site Id advise you to give it a whirl as I suspect that not too many Gundam God model makers will be taking part, giving us novices a chance.

All the best and Ill see what I have on my home computer in way of tutorials and the like.
