Questions on Giant Robo The Animation

Post by Tachyon » Tue Apr 10, 2007 2:36 pm

I recently saw Giant Robo the Animation. Great OAV series! I've heard it's based on a live action TV series called Giant Robo. How close is it to the live action show? Did they change everything or very little?

I assume you're talking about the Yasuhiro Imagawa series that finished in 1990s. That epic is a wonderful thing to behold, BUT--

It's not close to the original storyline at all. It's more of an embellished pastiche, like the Rocky Horror Picture Show (of which Imagawa is a great fan). The Experts of Justice and the Magnificent Ten were homages to all the other comics and anime done by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, Giant Robo's creator.

The version closest to the original storyline is currently running in Japan. It started about a month or so ago. Yokoyama was producing the show when he died in 2005. Therefore, the currently-running OVA is the closest thing to Yokoyama's original vision. Please check out the Wikipedia gateway: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_Robo
