CyberBots & Tech Romancer

CyberBots & Tech Romancer

two awesome fighting games from Capcom that have some really cool mecha designs.

Cyberbots has a bunch of unique designs, most of which have a few variants with different weapons and capabilities. I grabbed this for the Sega Saturn in good condition recently for 5 swiss francs ( more or less, 5 bucks), and I call that a hell of a bargain considering most places I have seen it, it was priced at 40 or 50 bucks.

Tech Romancer was a 3D fighter with alot of mecha designs that pay tribute to some of the most well known mechs of anime. its really awesome, but like Cyberbots, it is immensely hard to beat.

Both games are very frustrating, but very well made.

anyone else played these games? what did you think of the Mecha designs? [/b]

Cyberbots

I played Cyberbot...Both SS and PS version.(PS ver. is worse) And I must say I enjoy it pretty much. Well, my favourite design just happen to be Warlock. But all design are good, IMO. Even the goofy design like Gouki-Z (isn't that it's name?) or Super-8 are nice.

Also see some image from KikaiOh(Tech Romancer) Notice that there is one that look like Ultraman...Well, I still not lucky enough to play game...

Yeah, Warlock is badass, hard as hell to beat sometimes. some of the variants are pretty damn tough, like Blodia-riot and Guldin-Vice.

Tech Romancer has a alot of Homage characters, like Kikaioh himself ( I think he's a Mazinger type tribute) , Dixon( the gundam type) ,Wise Duck( representing the Battletech/ Destroid designs), and a lot more. really cool game, though I think its harder that Cyberbots in alot of ways.

I have Techromancer for the Dreamcast...fun little fighter, haven't beaten it though...not even close (altho I can get pretty far with the kids and thier two ship combineing mecha) Overall quite cool! ... IIRC: Shoji Kawamori of Macross fame is credited with the designs.

Another cool Dreamcast game...and one of my favorite games of all time is a little gem from Treasure titled Bangai-O ... naw the mechs arn't that great (so tiny on screen they are hardly visable actualy)...and the characters/story isn't great...but the gameplay is fantastic! its just so much fun to play. :D

There's something that's been bugging me for a number of years about Cyberbots. I remember back in the mid-nineties seeing promotional information for one of the Cyberbots games that included a set of action figure-type things of the main mechs, with limbs and things you could interchange. I also seem to remember that you could then plug the figures you made into the Saturn and play in-game with the mech combination you made. Unfortunately I never saw or heard anything about it again. Anybody know anything about this?
If there is a newtype, but nobody around to hear him, does he still make that newtype "flash" noise?

If my memory is right, that game is called ZXE-D: Legend of Plasmalite from Bandai... Launch in 1996, early year of PSX.

I can't remember where I found them, I'll try to find it again
Dr. Mystico: I'll build a private army of super-apes and take over Cleveland!
Cosgrove: Don't you mean the world?
Dr. Mystico: I meant the world, yes. What did I say? Cleveland? Oh, I *always* do that!
