Gears Online Has Been Hacked

Post by Tachyon » Thu May 26, 2005 9:43 pm

Gears Online has been hacked. The Web site is fine (as far as I can tell) but this message board was taken out of commission for a few hours. I fixed the problem but the hacker could come back and strike any time if I don't upgrade this message board from v2.0.4 to current.

I will take the time and do the upgrade but I can't guarantee that posts will be saved. I should have upgraded a while ago but I remember the crashes at Heika.Net and I was afraid of botching the job and losing stuff. Please back up the messages that are important to you. The upgrade will probably go smoothly but you never know for sure.

I wish to make an apology for allowing this attack to happen. I hope none of you will be upset. In the future, I will take upgrades more seriously.

The message board has been successfully upgraded to the current version. It appears that no posts were lost. The current version should make it a lot harder to be attacked by hackers.

Everyone, please return to your discussions and...

Don't be a hacker!

Well, not a malicious hacker. Benign hackers are ok.

Wow that's why the board looks different...
A color scheme I used to use (the blue-white theme) is now gone.

Thanks for taking care of the ordeal.

Here's a nice hacker story to brighten up the mood.
I hacked 127.0.0.1

Hahaha

That was hilarious. He did you a favor by changing your regular CD drive into a burning one. And completely ingenious, giving him his own IP. Classic, and very smart on your part.

It's nice to have an upgrade. Does this new ver. always at this blue color?

Gear is not a publicly advertised board. I am surprised someone hacked it. Is it a US IP addr. or some guy just so happen to find this board by coincidence and decide to hack it?
If you buy a pet from pet stores , you are encouraging those breeders to breed more. This is the condition that they lives in:

You should be able to shift back to the old color scheme in your Profile area. There should be a "Profile" to click on at the top of the screen.

Crikey wondered what was going on with the board change - no lasting harm done I hope.
