Macross Frontier is truly a jam! I'm glad they're carrying the vibe from Macross Plus. That's my favorite interpretation of the Macross milieu, and it's the best one in which to continue the saga. I can't get enough of watching this first episode. For me, it's the little things - the trash bots, the...

Tachyon: It sounds to me like you should give me a call, and let's start all over in getting your BT stuff set up. I will happily walk you through a "shopping trip" on the 'Net to score you the right client and player. Now that I've ditched the dayjob, I've got some time to talk. Feel free to gimme ...

I can't comment on Zipang; unfortunately I have yet to download that show. FLAG, on the other hand, I can say is fantastic. I haven't seen all of it - only thru episode 6. However, what I found was the most realistic mecha show I've ever seen. It's like watching CNN embedded-reporter footage of a st...

If'n I was you, I'd download BitTornado, and call it good. BitTornado works right "out of the box", no port-twiddling necessary.

There are numerous versions of the BitTorrent software out there; pick the one that is easiest to use. You don't have to go through this purgatory of adjustment.

There's a Newtype article where Nagano discusses all his rock influences, from place and mecha names all the way down to individual character designs. Anybody wanna translate it? :D

How so? The Buff Clan designs were radically different from the Earth designs. A third species' mecha design would have a completely different design ethic. It certainly wouldn't have 3 oversized Winnebago campers that gattai to form an oversized GM. The new designs are obviously built by human-type...

Shibamoto also worked with MN on FSS as an assistant. I found that out when I asked why Trinity Blood's designs looked like Five Star Stories.

That cover is gorgeous!

Unfortunately, I haven't come across a lot on Starship Troopers. The OVA series came out in the early 90s, but there wasn't much fanfare about it. I think I've got the soundtrack album floating around somewhere, but as far as illustrations, I don't have any dedicated books. Perhaps if I dove into my...

You might want to Google first, to see if there's one listed in the vast wasteland. If you find one, so much the better. If not, you can request a search for one at www.beNippon.com. I'd order from beNippon anyway, because they'll get it for you if you find it. Also, check their listings to see what...

I LOVE those redesigns! The Kobayashi Ideon was the best imagining of the mech I've ever seen. This version is based on Kobayashi's original model. The redesigned Solo Ship is also Kobayashi-based (from his Hyper Weapon books). They make the visual difference with Ideon, taking it from "the biggest ...

Falk: With all due respect and love, please don't cloud the issue. I've been doing this file thing for awhile now, and my experience has taught me that CCCP is the best, most unobtrusive and useful one-stop codec set out there (until something demonstrably better comes along). CCCP has .mkv codecs b...

I don't know about all that, Hellric. I don't have a blog. I generally post my impressions, critiques etc. here at Gears.

I think a blog space here is a good idea. It could be used by anyone here who has something to say, but not enough to warrant making their own blog.

Go for it, Tachyon!

Tachyon: Download CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack). Just Google CCCP and it'll take you right there. I would've ftp'd it to you, but the damn client didn't want to work right. I also was not able to upload the complete episodes except for 16. I'm going to just burn the eps to disc, and mail them...

Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann

Alright, I've got a confession to make. For many years now, I've felt that GAINAX is dead. As in "dead to me." As in, "I got my divorce, and I never wanna see that (expletive of choice) again." OK, everybody went apeshit about FLCL, but it left me cold. Folks lost their minds about Eva - I was about...
