I'm not so worried about the capabilities of the Mortar Headd making them appear more super robot-ish. To me, it's only the difference between setting; FSS as far-future versus Macross/Gundam/Patlabor/etc as near-future . A greater degree of technological capability can only be expected in a far-fut...

I understand. But the whole discussion is fan wank at best, so it's best to keep it in perspective :)

As I stated above, I agree an arguement could be raised to consider the Mortar Headds as super robots based on capability. For me personally, I don't subscribe to it, but I do understand it as a mitigating factor. To use an analogy, there's plenty of science fiction out there (mostly literature) fea...

Wow, you must be good at math. Have you ever tried to come up with an explosive yield for the buster cannons?

Yes, indeed Nu Soard . The power level of the Mortar Headds is simply astounding. I've also been comparing them to real world levels and they simply surpass everything. A Leopard II Tank generates 1,103 kW A Nimitz Aircraft Carrier generates 104 MW 2004 worldwide power consumption was 15 TW So yeah,...

Many thanks banruo ! So it actually is correct, just in long scale. It must be a funny japanese thing. Like how they once used kg for thrust ratings in many fictions like Gundam and Macross. So much converting to do. Thank gawd for the net :) Wow, a petawatt per Mortar Headd. I think that's more pow...

Is there any particular reasoning behind that? Are there multiple sources that say trillion and issue #7 just happens to be the odd man out? Don't be shy with the gruesome details. Remember, I'm a FSS newbie, so I want to know it all :)

Billion or trillion

I'm reading through english issue #7, giving attention to the back of the book features that present the full statistics of the LED Mirage Mortar Headd. Page 75 lists the output of the engine as 2.3 billion horsepower. However, here at gearsonline, all the Mortar Headds are given statistics where th...

I'm kinda low on cash right now. I think a lot of people are, since it's post-Christmas. This shop owner certainly picked a lousy time to start selling his FSS books. He's going to get less for them than he would ordinarily. He definitely should have taken your offer. He might not get even half that...

Hi Ben! Good to see you around again. I'm much less hesitant to classify Mortar Headds as real robots. The robots of FSS may belong to a rare Medieval-motif set within a high-fantasy-esque world but the Mortar Headds are presented (at least initially) as scientifically explained (unlike, say, Escafl...

FSS compared to the Real Robot genre...

I'm having an interesting discussion on another board about the Five Star Stories and the mecha of the real robot genre. Basically, we have been comparing the relative strengths of the mecha in the real robot genre (Macross, Gundam, Patlabor, Evangelion) to The Five Star Stories and it's clear the M...

What exactly did Heika.net have as far as FSS content? I'm a newbie to FSS and I got all the information I needed from here at gearsonline.net. I'm not really sure what else could have been told to new fans that isn't already here. I've almost got every issue from 1-7 and enjoying it.

Ah, my thanks again Nu Soard . So it basically is a kind of particle weapon and the shells were just energy charges for the Jagd Mirage's special rapid fire Buster cannon. Good enough. I've almost got every issue up to number 7 and all the books are a really good read so far. It's interesting how th...

Buster what?

So I'm reading issue number 3 of the english translated Five Star Stories; specifically, the appendix section at the back (er, front? I love manga...lol) describing the buster artillery. I'm lost on the exact nature of this weapon. They call the weapons "buster artillery" and they use actual shells ...
