I drove home (reluctantly) from North Texas RPG Con<\/a> yesterday.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a weekend of fun, industry insights and good fellowship.\u00a0 <\/span>If you like roleplaying games and you weren\u2019t there you really missed something.<\/p>\n Bill Webb, CEO of Frog God Games<\/a>, ran a game Friday night called Tower of Mythrus for Swords & Wizardry.\u00a0 <\/span>It was fast, frenetic and more fun than anyone should have without a license.\u00a0 <\/span>More than 20 of us crowded along three walls of a room while Bill worked his magic with two oversized dice and a ready supply of moxy.\u00a0 <\/span>The stakes were high, the DM was unforgiving and not one player dared look away.\u00a0 <\/span>I had a beginning character and sat next to the level 6 cleric.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a different style of play than I\u2019m accustomed to but I loved every minute of it.\u00a0 <\/span>I want to try it myself.\u00a0 <\/span>I had to leave the con early so I didn\u2019t get to experience Matt Finch\u2019s game (next year!).<\/p>\n I got my Swords & Wizardry Complete book signed by Skeeter Green, Matt Finch, Bill Webb, Charles A. Wright and Erol Otus.\u00a0 <\/span>That upgrades it to Swords & Wizardry Absolute.\u00a0 <\/span>I had a great time chatting at the booth with the Frog God Games crew.<\/p>\n I had breakfast with Richard J. LeBlanc, Jr. of New Big Dragon Games<\/a> (and his lovely wife).\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s going to be publishing some supplements soon for B\/X D&D that will be my cup of tea.<\/p>\n I chatted a few times with Erik Tenkar of Tenkar\u2019s Tavern<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/span>I met The Old Grognard<\/a>, Glen Hallstrom.\u00a0 <\/span>I chatted with him several times and learned he knows a lot about several of my interests and worked at R. Talsorian Games for a while.\u00a0 He gave me some great advice on podcasting.<\/p>\n I met Tim Kask, editor for TSR during their formative years.\u00a0 <\/span>I gamed with Steve Marsh of Expert D&D fame.\u00a0 <\/span>I learned Steve enjoys Monty Python jokes as much as I do.\u00a0 <\/span>I met Mike and Liz<\/a>, founding hosts of Save or Die Podcast.\u00a0 <\/span>I gamed with Carl Heyl, current host of Save or Die<\/a>.<\/p>\n I met Jim Wampler who works with both Frog God Games and Goodman Games.\u00a0 <\/span>He recently brought Mutant Crawl Classics into the world and I was able to discuss his reasons behind the odd map and why he chose it.\u00a0 Jim said he’s working on a super hero rpg now.<\/p>\n The Mixed GM<\/a> was there running ACKS and his adventure The Tomb of the Mad Jarl.\u00a0 <\/span>I played at the Mixed GM\u2019s table and really enjoyed it.\u00a0 <\/span>Once he publishes it I\u2019ll recommend it.\u00a0 <\/span>After the game we grabbed lunch and discovered we follow a lot of the same authors and blogs.<\/p>\n I gamed with James Spahn of Barrel Rider Games<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/span>He wrote the popular White Star science-fiction game.\u00a0 <\/span>James was a lot of fun and knows how to run an old-school dungeon crawl as well as any of the OSR greats.\u00a0 <\/span>Jason Hobbs of Hobbs & Friends of the OSR<\/a> podcast was there (ask him about his \u201csassy cats\u201d).<\/p>\n There were many more experiences.\u00a0 <\/span>It was an awesome weekend.\u00a0 <\/span>I can\u2019t miss next year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I drove home (reluctantly) from North Texas RPG Con yesterday.\u00a0 It was a weekend of fun, industry insights and good fellowship.\u00a0 If you like roleplaying games and you weren\u2019t there you really missed something.
